Today I am going to show you a normal conversation between two people using everyday words, phrasal verbs and idioms commonly used in the UK.
Watch the video, so that you can practise listening to natural connected speech. Here is a transcript of the conversation, for you to follow:
Hi Dawn, you alright?
Hey Clare, yeah, I’m ok thanks, you alright?
Yeah, not bad. How’s the family?
They’ve all been a bit poorly lately. Just a cold, nothing too bad.
Aww, bless. What about this weather?
Oh yeah, it’s crazy! One minute it’s chucking down, and the next it’s blazing sunshine.
I know, we went from coats to t-shirts overnight!
Yeah, I can’t get my head around it! So, what did you get up to at the weekend?
Oh, not much. Just a bit of this and that. Pottering around in the garden, playing with the kids, that sort of thing. How about you? Did you get up to anything fun?
Yeah, I went to a party with my friends. We danced all evening and into the wee small hours of the morning! It was awesome! And the food was to die for!
Sounds amazing! You’ll have to give me the number of that caterer. Ok, well I’d better get going. Catch you later.
Yeah, see you around.
