Hi, everyone. Today we are going to practice pronouncing our Ps and Bs. This will be particularly helpful for you, if you come from an Arabic speaking country, or if you just have trouble with your P or B sounds.
In the video we start by practising the sounds, then move onto some pairs of words to help show the contrast between the P and B sounds. After that we’ll move on to some sentences. I break down the sentences into smaller, slower chunks and then gradually speed them up.
My Challenge: practise these exercises every day – at least 10 minutes per day – for 7 days. Then let me know in the comments section if you notice any improvement. But don’t just do it for 7 days, keep going after that and see how much your speech is transformed!
Here are the exercises, so you can keep practising:
Comparing P and B:
pea be; pin bin; park bark; pall ball; peach beach; pear bear
Words with 2 P’s:
pip; pop; pipe; pupil; papaya; prepare; principle
Words with both P’s and B’s:
Pub; public; probe; problem; publish; Pembroke
Pairs of words ending in P or B:
(Now, remember that the vowel sound changes and gets longer when it ends with a voiced consonant, in this case B)
Cap cab; cup cub; rip rib; nip nib; rope robe
Sentences:
Push a pea past your plate
I’ll prepare my perfect peppers and pea purée (tongue twister!)
Buy me plenty of beautiful presents
That cap and bat are public property
My published poem will bring great publicity for your boring paper
As always, comments can be left under the video on YouTube.
Until next time!
