Sometimes prefixes and suffixes can help us to find the meaning of words, which is great, but sometimes they just DO NOT help at all!
In this video I talk about false synonyms. These words are confusing because sometimes the prefixes or suffixes in both words can mean the same thing. So, it is easy to look at these words and think they must be synonyms. But, as you will find out today, that is not always the case.
The pairs of words I am looking at today are perfect for you if you are a pre-intermediate level learner.
Here they are – 5 false synonyms:
- Tail / retail
- Side / reside
- Test / protest
- Awesome / awful
- Increase / decrease
I hope you find it helpful. If these are a little too easy there will be videos for intermediate and advanced learners on this subject in the future, so look out for those as well!
