Previously I promised that I would make a post about the phrase “How is it that…?” Â Today, all will be revealed!
In my video called “10 Impressive Expressions†I used a dialogue between two sisters to show how to use some different English expressions. During that conversation, it became obvious that the two sisters had very different personalities. One of the sisters then ended the conversation with the question, “How is it that we are sisters?”
Using this phrase can be an interesting way of adding emphasis to your question. In this lesson we look at using the phrase in the following ways:
- Rhetorical Question
- Contrasting Opposite Ideas
- Introducing a serious topic
